Ottawa Hills Students Land Scholarships To FAMU
In support of the Ottawa Hills High School's theme of HBCUs, for the third year, the school has partnered with Florida Agriculture and Mechanical University to increase the pipeline from GRPS to FAMU.
Dr. William Hudson, vice president of student affairs at Florida A&M, visited Ottawa Hills High School, located at 2055 Rosewood Ave SE in Grand Rapids on Wednesday, November 28, 2018. A p - proximately 200 students from district high schools attended the event to hear more about Florida A&M, the district's partnership with historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs).
Several GRPS students received full or partial scholarships to Florida A&M during the visit.
This year, Nodia McLaughlin and Darius Guy have been awarded various scholarships that will aid tremendously in changing their futures.
There were also three additional scholarships awarded to GRPS students to be named at a later date.
"We had six students who were given scholarships, of which two of them were presented with scholarships," said organizer Sam Mickens Jr. of Grand Rapids Public Schools.
"They received partial or full - ride scholarships. They received scholarships in excess of $50,000 to attend Florida A&M University in the fall as part of the partnership."
