KCSO Becomes the Second Accredited Sheriff's Office in Michigan KENT COUNTY, Mich: *On June 18, 2024, the Kent County Sheriff's Office officially received accreditation from the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police (MACP). KCSO is now the second Sheriff's Office in the entire state to receive this prestigious distinction.
This achievement is a testament to our entire agency's hard work and dedication, including enforcement, corrections, communications, and civilian staff. Sheriff Michelle LaJoye-Young explained how the Kent County Sheriff's Office has diligently prepared for this, striving to uphold the rigorous standards set forth by our agency and the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police. KCSO had to comply with 108 standards and pass an on-site assessment in order to achieve accredited status. KCSO invested significant resources into our policies, procedures, and training initiatives to ensure alignment with industry best practices and the evolving needs of our community.
Being accredited places our agency among the leaders in the field across the state, showcasing the exceptional work of our large and dedicated staff. Sheriff Michelle LaJoye-Young indicated, "We recognize the significance of accreditation as a validation of our commitment to excellence and continuous improvement in serving our community." The accreditation will be formally given to KCSO at an upcoming Board of Commissioners meeting.
