Grand Rapids, MI — Quarterly Community Partners Meetings at Madison Church provide a neutral space for anyone living, serving or leading in Southtown to network, share information, and learn together about issues directly impacting the community.

The next meeting is Wednesday, June 12 from 11:30 - 1pm in the Multipurpose Room of the church located at 1441 Madison SE. Lunch will be provided.

The issue for this meeting is an upcoming request to approve the sale of a neighboring building for use as a marijuana dispensary.

The building located at 1316 Madison is the current location of Urban Roots and would be owned by an out - of - state firm, QPS Holdings.

Interest in the issue has been steadily mounting since Thursday, May 23, when residents of the Madison Hall neighborhood received a postcard announcing a "listening meeting" to be held the very next day on May 24 by QPS Holdings.

Residents from the neighborhood as well as others from across the city have steadily expressed their concerns about the short notice, about and the meeting being scheduled miles away from the neighborhood at the Delta Hotel on 28th Street, during the day and on a holiday weekend.

They can explore the issue further on June 12, after lunch at Madison Church, when Landon Bartley, Senior City Planner, will come to answer questions. Mr. Bartley will discuss the process of approval needed for QPS Holdings to purchase the building and how the community can weigh in on the decision.

After he speaks, attendees will still be able to share for 3 minutes about any news, events or activities they are offering this quarter so that the community can be in support of one another. There will be an information table to share flyers and business cards to share!

Please RSVP to office@madisonsquarechurch.org the meeting organizers can plan for food.
