All Voters Are Now Eligible To Vote Absentee
Grand Rapids, MI – City Clerk Joel Hondorp is reminding residents that all voters are eligible for absentee voting under a recently approved state ballot initiative. Before the passage of Proposal 3 in November, voters had to qualify to vote absentee.
The City Clerk's Office recently mailed informational brochures to all voters not already on the permanent absentee voter application list.
The document describes the absentee voting process and lists the ways voters can be added to the permanent absentee application list.
They are:
• Mail in the postcard included in the brochure
• Register online at grandrapids.mi.gov/avlist
• Call the Clerk's Office at 616.456.3010
• Email the Clerk's Office at cityclerk@grcity.us
"Proposal 3 gives voters more options to cast their ballots in upcoming elections," Hondorp said. "Voters can either participate by voting absentee ballot or voting in - person in their precinct on election day."
This process will be in place in time for all three elections scheduled in 2019:
1. May 7 – All Kentwood Public Schools voters in precincts 51, 54, 56, 57 and 58 will vote at Brookside Christian Reformed Church, 3600 Kalamazoo Ave. SE.
2. August 6 – City primary election for Mayor, First, Second and Third Ward city commissioners and Library Board. The filing deadline for these offices is April 23. If interested, pick up a candidate packet in the Clerk's Office on the second floor of City Hall, 300 Monroe Ave. NW.
3. November 5 – City general election for Mayor, First, Second and Third Ward city commissioners and Library Board.
