Paul Mayhue Says, Don't Do Business With Turn Key

Grand Rapids resident and former Commissioner Paul Mayhue, Vietnam Veteran and Paid Mortgage Officer, discovered some water leakage in his roof that started in his garage.

"The strangest thing is that it didn't leak whenever it rained, it only leaked during the winter when the ice began to melt," said Mayhue.

He later lost his homeowner's insurance after it was reported that he had mold in his roof, which he says is never a reality.

Mayhue also noticed a leak in the ceiling in the bathroom that he had repaired but also had trouble with leakage in his grand daughter's room.

"The strange thing is that when he got the leak fixed in the roof above the garage, his roofer from another company informed him that the leak in his roof had stopped as well," said Mayhue.

Subsequently, he noticed that there was a crack in his grand daughter's room that slowly began to get bigger and bigger. When Mr. Mayhue had his handyman to come to take a look at it, when he pushed on the crack in the ceiling it came crashing down to the floor of the room. In the debris was a horrible circular part of a roof with shingles still attached that weighed about twenty pounds that Mayhue nicked named 'the missle'.

"I didn't even know that the ceiling was like that until we went into my grand daughter's room and discovered a crack in the ceiling. We waited a little while and the crack getting little longer and eventually caved in," said Mayhue.

After getting the roof above the guest room fixed, Mr. Mayhue was no longer fearful of the ceiling falling in on his grand daughter. The question was did, how did this missile get here?

"I sued the contractors for four thousand dollars and was told by the madristrate that I not only could not collect any of the four thousand dollars but that I also could not come back to court about the matter in the future. Adjourned with prejudice," he said. "The contract says that no work can be done on the home without a change order, so someone was supposed to bring me a written change order in order for this to happen and in order for who ever to have cut the circle out of the roof. In order for that to happen, I should have had a written change order. The contractor tried to tell me that what I called a missile had come from my neighbor's roof, but I know that my neighbor's roof and they did not drill a circular hole in my roof. I watched him fix my neighbors roof and he didn't saw anything off of the roof. So the contractor tried to put the missile on my neighbor's.

Mr. Mayhue proceeded with filing a complaint against Turn Key Home Improvement about the incident.

"I have a complaint that I filed against the resident of Turn key agent and when I called him he cursed me out. The worst prejudice was the magistrate. He sat there and listened to all of this evidence that I brought to court and said that he could do anything for me. He let the contractors off and I have to eat four thousand dollars and I still don't know where the whole in my roof was cut in my roof. I also was told that the city does not require the contractor to put my gutters put back on my house. The contractors took the gutters off of my house. Now I have to buy gutters to put on the garage.

"Run when you hear of Turn Key because they are crooks," he said.

"I went to court because I needed enumeration for the ceiling that fell in and I was told no. I have to pay my handyman four thousand dollars to fix my roof.

To Paul Mayhue, the moral of the story is do not do business with Turn Key, ever.

"The moral of the story is that these people are crooks. When we went to court, the court was complicit and that is not coming from this newspaper publication, this is coming from me, Paul Mayhue. "I got jacked from the contractor and the city inspectors. I remember one of neighbors who had moved away since stopped by and asked me what were they doing to my roof because it looked weird. I was wondering if what they were doing was up to code, because they had it jacked up so bad with funny looking stuff hanging off of it. I said to myself wow these people are really jacking me up. I will say it once again, don't do business with the Turn Key Home Improvement Service and don't go to court, because the court was complicit. I had all of this evidence and the court just dismissed the case. With extreme prejudice and I was out of four thousand dollars that I paid to my handyman.
