Leatha Louise Harris, age 70, was born in Gary, Indiana to Leonard and Ruby Bassett, departed this life Tuesday, July 27, 2021. Leatha was a resident of Grand Rapids, Michigan where she married and had a talented son, Brandon Harris. Leatha was the ultimate teacher.

Leatha loved her students and worked tirelessly to provide them the best learning experience possible. She was loved by her students long after they left her classroom.

She accepted Christ in her life and was a faithful member of her church. She enjoyed her church and her beautiful voice rang out in the church choir.

Harris was a devoted member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Leatha fought a courageous battle in her final years on this earth. Her legacy will be one of giving, love and happiness. Leatha would share whatever she had with those in need. She simply loved selflessly.

Leatha Harris was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Ruby Bassett; brother-in-law, Virgil Redd and nephew, Prim Rogers.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her son, Brandon Harris; her three siblings, Leonard (Marsha) Bassett, Jr. of Florrisant, MO, Dennis (Mary) Bassett of Rochester, NY and Odette Red of Chesterfield, MI; nieces, Shana (Brad) Sleep, Christina (Alyssa) Ketelson-Redd, Dawn (Marcus) Reese, Rhonda Rogers; nephews, LaShun (Tammy) Bassett, Vasco Bassett, Brad (Daniela) Elliott and a hose of relatives and special friends.
