We are saddened to announce the loss of Dr. Gerald Dawkins. Dr. Dawkins, working as one of the top educators in the country, began his career as a teacher and counselor with the Grand Rapids Public Schools and eventually becoming Assistant Superintendent for Educational Services and then Chief of Staff.

Dr. Dawkins continued his career becoming Superintendent for Saginaw Public Schools and Caddo Parish Public Schools in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Upon his retirement from the Caddo Parish Schools, Dr. Dawkins served as Senior Vice President of Superintendent and District Relations with Virginia-based K12 Insight.

He will be sadly missed by his wife, Gwen; daughters, Kanika and Kamaria; his grandchildren, Kadence and Karter will truly miss their PopPop.

Dr. Gerald Dawkins' life will be celebrated on Saturday, July 3 at Messiah Baptist Church, 513 Henry Avenue SE, Grand Rapids, Michigan. Family hour will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and the Celebration of Life will begin at 1:00 p.m.
