Brame Twins Now Eagle Scouts
Do you know what it takes to become an Eagle Scout? Well, this much I can tell you, it is far too much to list. Boy Scout Troop number 258 is housed at Brown Hutcherson Ministries.
Since 6th grade, Ahanu Abayomi Roberts - Brame and his twin, Awan Kenyatta Roberts - Brame have been active in this troop started by their uncle Kenyatta Brame and their aunt Tracy Brame.
Just a week ago, they graduated from Catholic Central High School and they also reached Eagle Scout status in the Grand Rapids chapter of Omega Psi Phi fraternity's troop — two major accomplishments in one year.
The troop consists of 13 young men and two young women.
The ceremony honoring these young men took place on Saturday, June 8 at Brown - Hutcherson Ministries. The accolades were coming from many well - wishers.
Michigan State Senator Winnie Brinks, Kent County Administrator Wayman Britt, along with two Eagle Scouts were present and congratulating the talented twins.
In addition to troop leaders, Kenyatta and Tracy Brame, the twins' proud mother, Tamika Brame; their stepfather; their grandfather, Dr. Walter Brame; grandmother, Rev. Brenda Brame; brother, Cory; sister Anyeh; cousins and good friends – old and young – were also there.
Attending such a ceremony is probably a once in a lifetime for most people. Only four percent of all scouts reach the status of Eagle Scout; and among African - Americans, only one percent of scouts reach that high a rank. Of all the U.S. Presidents, only Grand Rapids' own, President Gerald R. Ford received eagle wings.
How good was it to see two young men who stood tall, persevered, and reaped the benefits of their hard work. Well done young men; well done.
