Sights Sounds Smell
Dearest God, Jesus, Holy Spirit,
Thank you for all the little and giant blessings you continue to pour out on your children, even when we forget it is you who does blessing.
Daylight is becoming shorter, giving us more time to think about the summer you gave us.
We had a great time! Thank you Master, there were very few bad weather warnings this summer, too!
Dear Lord Jesus, many families are still weeping over their loved ones who are with you. I am not alone when I say I miss Rufus Granderson.
Where did the three years go?
Thank you for staying with me and so many other women and men who are left to carry on.
I laugh when I see Rufus now, frying 4 chickens to take to his job for his co - workers at Kindel Funiture Company on Garden Street. He wanted everyone out of the kitchen — no suggestions, please.
I begged him not to fry the chicken so hard and to put the chicken in a pretty dish; but not Rufus! He put the chicken in a bowl and placed the meat in two large brown paper bags!
His co - workers loved that chicken! They asked him to do it every year! Stop everyone!
No tears!
Let us try if only for a moment to recall a time of humor with our loved ones. Can you see them, hear them, smell them and laugh with them?
Today will not be sad for God wants us to rejoice after we have cried and wiped our tears and noses! God has given us comfort. Can you see God, feel Him and smell His wonderful aroma?
Look! God's footprints and handprints are all over the sick, seniors, armed forces and our beloved children of our town and nation.
A special blessing for the families trying to leave Mexico in the heat! Can you feel their needs? Do you see them? Can you smell them? God be with them!
Dear Readers, how are you on this wonderful day, October 23, 2018, in our town of Grand Rapids, Michigan.
The trees, flowers and grass bid us farewell until next year.
I cannot believe that no one is bar - b - queing that last slab of ribs or turkey knuckles!
Today I have written three small stories and I want you to go back with me when you were a small child. Recall the sights, sounds and smells.
On your first day of school, who took you and where was the school located? How did you feel being around all of the new kids? Did you cry? Did you get a chance to go to school or did you have to stay home and help work in the fields? Was your school mixed with all different color kids and what was in your lunch box?
What was mama cooking in the big pot when you came home from school? Was it chicken, beans and rice; pork chops with fried apples; leftover pizza; mama did not cook or was there nothing to cook (sorry)?
What was your favorite drink: Kool - Aid, Royal Crown Cola, milk or water (well or faucet?).
What did you wear to school?
Hand me downs? Home made or bought from Macy's?
