Sophisticated Gentlemen's and Ladies Auxiliary Club Still Growing in The Community
A well-known social club located at 1439 Eastern lost their building due to a fire. The good news is that Grand Rapids Planning Commission recently approved a land permit that enables the club to resume operations, which includes the sale of alcohol. The permit also approves live entertainment and other activities in a different building located on the property. The club has about seventy members and growing.
"We got the news on August 11, 2022 about 1:30 pm from the Planning Commission's office," said Jeff Kimbrel. "We had to do a lot of foot-work and a lot of paper work. Believe it or not, the city had been working with us all along but we just had to do the right things. I want the community to know that it has been a long, hard struggle. People may think that we have it all and although we had insurance, we are not ashamed to say that we are open for donations. Although we have reached out and given to this community for years, we are finding ourselves in need. We Sophisticated Gentlemen's and Ladies Auxiliary Club Still Growing in The Communityhave given from our hearts and now we are asking for a little help."
The rear building that once housed our painting company and was not damaged by the fire will now be remodeled to house the Sophisticated Gentlemen and Ladies Auxiliary Club. Where the former club stood will be an open out door patio for entertainment. The 2,500 foot space will have be able to accommodate about 130 people.
"The thing that we want people to know is that we are a club that continues to give back even though we are struggling," said Kimbrel. "We are looking at a complete roof tear off and rebuild and our doors are open for donations. For anyone who would like to donate to our cause, they can contact Fifth Third Bank or they can call the club itself. We are a club that does not discriminate and is continuing to grow. Members must be age 35 or older. Most are business owners. We are hoping that with this new building we can continue to give back to the community and we hope that the community will stop in and support us."
