JUNETEENTH CELEBRATION

The West Michigan Jewels Of Africa LLC. (WMJOA LLC.) traditional African drum and dance group, the GR Community with the leadership of the African Drum and Dance Parent Association (ADDPA) is back again for its fifth year hosting Jubilee. The fifty year celebration of the enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation was celebrated like no other. It was called the Dickinson Park Dunumba (DPD).

The Grand Rapids Juneteenth Village invited the Community to enjoy celebrating DPD. Dunumba- the dance of the Strong Man fuels the unity at the longest annual Juneteenth Holiday Celebration. DPD and the African American Independence Day is a celebration of freedom and the call for the "Strong Man" in the village to rise up on Father's Day. This was a time to rejoice, reflect, rebuild while celebrating with friends who showcased beauty, pride, grace, energy, and love for the Culture.
